Christmas time / Época de Natal

Caption: Joy of man’s desiring
Legenda: Alegria dos homens

Someday men will become children on Christmas and they’ll sing christmas carols with solemnity and joy and won’t be thinking of advertising. And they will give presents to the people they love just because of love and not because they want something in exchange. And they’ll believe, even just for a day, in Santa Claus and won’t be whining about the lack of christmas spirit. And their reason will be replaced by a fine desire of being among some certain wise men from the East. And every glow in the trees and houses decoration may be a symbol of the very glow in the eyes of the ones who define Christmas as a fulfillment of something bigger than mankind. And they will be back home to celebrate the greatest event of all.

Blood, sweat and tears / Sangue, suor e lágrimas

Caption: Hard times
Legenda: Tempos difíceis

The Holy Scripture suggests us that many run for a prize that won’t last. How far would you go to stand up and suffer for a concept? Blood, sweat and tears are the elements that form the idea of actually running for something like your life would depend on it. Blood represents your physical struggles and your way of showing how people can be so similar and, at the same time, so different; sweat, when you give yourself and don’t have anything back; and tears, when you want to be strong and realizes you’re weak and you’d rather be like that because you wish things were different. Would you go that far?

Birds that don't sow or reap display their beauty to the world and rarely go back to the sky. They belong to the ground, as good as the ones who please them. People stare and cannot look away because they want to be just like the birds and only death will stop them from doing it. Nobody wants to go where the eagles dare - something keeps them down.

Caption: Music to live by
Legenda: Música para a vida

You might not know, you might find it nonsense, but the world today needs someone who dances for no reason to show people with no music in their lives how their hearts need a rhythm to every beat. The one who doesn't bring a song inside theirselves can't be trusted. There's a fine line between insanity and our higher reality: our fragile attitude of thinking that everything is justificated by a static reason.

Sometimes we have to look what is ahead of us to consider and understand what's near to ourselves.

Owners of the sea / Donos do mar

Legenda: Alma negra*
Caption: Dark soul*

Did the pirates really exist or they were just a projection of our delusional desires of wilderness, power sensation and the anywhere shipping freedom feeling? It is claimed that pirates had existed some centuries ago and they fought battles with their old ships and always displaying their techniques for navigating. Legend has it that pirates would bury valuable treasures to hide from their enemies and after while they would dig up the hidden treasure by using a map. However, those who would help pirates to dig up the treasure had to be killed right after, so this way no one would actually know where the treasure was. Sometimes we’re the dark soul – the pirate who demands to other people find where the real treasure is and show them the way of getting it, but the profit goes to only one person. In certain situations someone could have a map (a slight idea of their goal) and they’re dissuaded from doing what they were trying to reach, once it is somehow forbidden for them to have any benefit with it. We’re pirates with a dark soul, half-blinded, sailing with haunted ships that are filled with our distress and anxiety to feel just for one moment that we’re different when, in fact, we’re not at all.

*Main theme based on Roberto Gómez Bolaños’ El Chapulín Colorado TV show episode entitled “Los Piratas”.

O passado atual / The current past

Legenda: Charqueadas
Caption: Charqueadas

Where do you go when you want to runaway from your regular point of view? Eyes that are tired of the plainness of the things can now behold a whole different perspective as they see a part of the history that they have never seen before. That’s the dense concept of new: different from anything you’ve ever seen and it changes you. Look at the past and learn from it: sometimes you bring back the former days, but you do it in such a current way that brings it out new concepts.

Talk the talk

Caption: Old numbers
Legenda: Números antigos

The more we talk, the less we know each other. We can’t count how many ways of communication we have nowadays and how little we know about people’s lives and their personalities. If we look back, we see how simple life was at that time when people used to pay visits and meet someone on the street. Where are these values today? We don’t chat, we don’t greet on the street and we don’t stop by just to say “hi”, only because we’re too busy for anything. In a way, an old telephone would make us closer than any modern way of communication would do.

We go deep into urban jungles to just get a piece of what the real world would be like, when, in fact, we’re losing the essential of everything. People get used to the artificial and forget that the most important things can’t be reproduced.

Life’s a game. We’re here to compete. It’s not that we’re in a competition among each other, but that everybody has opportunities to try, to be in the game. We have victories and we have defeats, but, on the contrary of what people think, nobody loses, they just give up playing. And just like in a game, all our movements determine how the other players’ movements will be and everything we do is significant, once the winner isn’t the one that receives the laurel wreath.

Cai o pano / The curtain falls

Legenda: O palco
Caption: The stage

I remember that it was the Bard who said that all the world’s a stage and that all the men and women were merely players. This concept is interesting when we see all kinds of people that exist. We have methodical people who spend their entire life doing the same things every day and so, because of that, they are ordinary players that don’t create anything, but they don’t annul anything as well; we have creative players, people who want to embellish their parts with the search for new ideas; of course we have awful players that just don’t live their parts and they end up trying to sabotage the whole play, but at the end, they only get their own ruin; we still have the ones that in their creative impulse go far from the play theme in their exaggerated interpretations. However, all these ones who were mentioned are players and it is given to them an opportunity in the play. And the Bard concludes saying that these players have their exits and their entrances, because each one has their time. Everybody has opportunities to show their performance and please the audience.
