World is fading fast / O mundo está definhando rapidamente

Caption: Sacred
Legenda: Sagrado

In times like this when so many people try to put in doubt principles that were supposed to be permanent and start to raise questions to turn what is sacred and morally correct ineffective, the real challenge is not to begin a revolution or leave the social ostracism to complain about the government or public services. It is the cold terrorism (not the one that is happening in the Middle East) that made us unemotional and therefore incapable of accepting what was wisely given to us. People's nature has been changing and and they have developed a treacherous character that denies their own past and worries only with their own satisfaction, no matter what takes to achieve that. Those are dangerous people - they don't want to know about what used to be the right thing to do and they don't care about what it's been broken on the way.

Is Shakespeare everywhere?

"What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;"

Shakespeare está em todo o lugar?

"O que há num nome? O que chamamos rosa
com outro nome não teria igual perfume?"

Note to native English speakers: according to the Brazilian portuguese dictionary, the word "pipoca" which in English is "popcorn" is not spelled with an accent.

If we were birds and our lives were nothing but a long performance of a tragedy, our feathers would be our tragic flaw.

Not every bridge links two different points. It can also hinder us from going to the water.

It's been eight years and people still cry about it. Some things we never forget.

People don’t say “cheese” anymore. The new digital machines ruined it for the ones who used to prepare themselves to take a picture.

What would Blake say? / O que Blake diria?

Caption: A poison tree
Legenda: Uma árvore envenenada

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears
Night and morning with my tears,
And I sunned it with smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright,
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,--

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning, glad, I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.
(Wiliam Blake)

********************************

Estava com raiva do meu amigo
Falei de minha ira; minha ira terminou.
Estava com raiva de meu inimigo.
Não falei disso; minha raiva aumentou.

E reguei-a em meus medos
Noite e dia com minhas lágrimas
E aqueci-a com sorrisos
E astúcias doces e insinceras.

E ela crescia de noite e de dia
Até dar à luz luminosa maçã
Que meu inimigo, vendo brilhar,
Soube que era minha.

E meu jardim invadiu
Quando a noite tudo tinha ocultado
E pela manhã, feliz, constatei
Meu inimigo estendido sob a árvore.
(William Blake)

One - Um

Caption: Bird playing solitaire
Legenda: Pássaro sozinho

I’ve always considered loneliness as a psychological thing. What’s on your mind may and probably will get in your way eventually. Descartes would conceive the existence in the thought, therefore, in the consciousness. Assuming the thinking as the essence of the being, the state of helpless solitude is only for the ones who find in the reason their living.
