“What the world needs now” / "O que o mundo precisa agora"

Caption: Forgotten escapes
Legenda: Refúgios esquecidos

We dream of different houses carefully designed for our complete safety. We go deep into urban jungles to just get a piece of what the real world would be like, when, in fact, we’re losing the essential of everything. People get used to the artificial and forget that the most important things can’t be reproduced.

“All the runners run...”

Legenda: O jogo começou
Caption: Game’s on

Life’s a game. We’re here to compete. It’s not that we’re in a competition among each other, but that everybody has opportunities to try, to be in the game. We have victories and we have defeats, but, on the contrary of what people think, nobody loses, they just give up playing. And just like in a game, all our movements determine how the other players’ movements will be and everything we do is significant, once the winner isn’t the one that receives the laurel wreath.

“O choro pode durar uma noite…” / “Weeping may remain for a night...”

Legenda: Restos
Caption: Remains

If you want to know, and this is the basis of anything, the very way to someone’s heart, you will easily find it between the first and the second tear that they drop for something that really mean to them. As you see only the remains, don’t you miss the ship?

Cai o pano / The curtain falls

Legenda: O palco
Caption: The stage

I remember that it was the Bard who said that all the world’s a stage and that all the men and women were merely players. This concept is interesting when we see all kinds of people that exist. We have methodical people who spend their entire life doing the same things every day and so, because of that, they are ordinary players that don’t create anything, but they don’t annul anything as well; we have creative players, people who want to embellish their parts with the search for new ideas; of course we have awful players that just don’t live their parts and they end up trying to sabotage the whole play, but at the end, they only get their own ruin; we still have the ones that in their creative impulse go far from the play theme in their exaggerated interpretations. However, all these ones who were mentioned are players and it is given to them an opportunity in the play. And the Bard concludes saying that these players have their exits and their entrances, because each one has their time. Everybody has opportunities to show their performance and please the audience.

Feitos de desconhecimento / Made of unknowledge

Legenda: Nereidas
Caption: Nereids

It’s not the nymphs that bestow care on the waters. It’s our modern beliefs without faith that are doomed to tangent, the literal, what we see. It will be left to the future generations only beautiful images of a history that a few know.

Se os homens fossem pássaros / If men were birds

Legenda: Liberdade
Caption: Freedom

The concept of free will is fascinating. People want to feel free as a bird. To have feathers instead of a skin that feels all kinds of bad sensations to some fine rain protection; to have definite colors that would attract everybody’s attention, rather than a tissue that changes from one color to another in a matter of seconds, giving an odd appearance; wings to fly to anywhere without being worried about buses, cars, trains and planes tickets – there’s always the possibility of running away from problems or any awkward situation that might come up once in a while; an excellent vision to see what’s far away from a human eye and be prepare for an eventual predator attack; stability for high places, taking risks and feel with no boundaries; a beak to eat only certain things and just a little and from where unique sounds would come out to complaint and demand things all the time. If only men were free…

Legenda: Sobre o telhado
Caption: Over the roof

Sometimes, our sight gets used to the snow over the roof of the houses and the coldness in our character reaches proportions that get out of our control. As long as the winter is within us, it doesn’t matter from where we look, we’ll always see the snow.

“Nem tudo o que reluz...” / “All that glisters…”

Legenda: Idade da pedra
Caption: Stone Age

Distinctive brilliant appearance and a flawless beauty are the main features of a gemstone preciosity. People are sized up by these same attributes everyday. Human beings aren’t stones, obviously. Yet, they insist to create petrified concepts with patterns made of stone. These concepts look beautiful and so interesting at first sight, but they will never change, so the most important thing would be what is outside. Witty is the Bard who said, “My crown is in my heart, not in my head”.

Não mais Iluminismo / No more Enlightenment

Legenda: Os românticos
Caption: The romantics

Most people in the whole world don’t think of dying for someone. In books we learn about those knights who gave up their lives for average people that couldn’t defend themselves; lovers who took their lives just because they didn’t even consider the possibility of going on without the special person that gave them another meaning to their existence. They didn’t change the world, but they changed themselves.

Apenas tolos se entregam / Only fools rush in

Legenda: O Leste
Caption: The East

“Mas silêncio! Que luz é essa através daquela janela?
É o Leste e Julieta é o sol”. (Romeu e Julieta Ato II Cena I - William Shakespeare)

“But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun”. (Romeo and Juliet Act II Scene I - William Shakespeare)

East represents our reasonable choices in a way that makes us safe. The East is always there and it always will. Easy concepts don’t change a human being. However, there’s the sun which allow us to understand the idea of what really matters. Only by gazing into what would completely change his life that Romeo permitted himself to be vulnerable, not to be a sentimental fool, but to be sure that love is not a person, marriage, sex or even a myth. Love is beyond the balcony.
